For the very few of us who do remember Pearl Harbor and December 7th (and that indeed, is very few) I remind you of how obsolete and yet how peculiar many folks handled it. “It’s a joke, right?” “It couldn’t happen, not here in America, right?” “Where is Pearl Harbor, anyway”. How unsophisticated we were. No television, no internet, no cell phones, no I pads, no social media whatsoever. No “OMG”. Think of it. What would we do and how would we react? 76 years ago, young men sprang into action, chomping at the bit to fight those Japs! Yes, as politically incorrect as it is today, that’s what America said then. Young women became Rosie Riveters, families learned to ration food, gas, even shoes. Maybe that wasn’t the greatest generation. It sure seems like it, though. To those who fought, died or just plain served, we owe a lot. Thank a veteran for their service. And if you ever vacation in Hawaii, make sure you take time out to go to Pearl Harbor. It will be an experience you will not forget.
