As someone much smarter than I said recently: “It’s a shame the name Martin Luther King means only a holiday or a barbecue to some.” And it’s true. People are divided into two camps. The ones who realize the profound impact he had in life or those that dismiss him as just another voice in the crowd. What irritate’s me, even more, is people who speculate on what he would have thought of today’s world. The simple fact for those who continue to pontificate about which side he would have been on are only shooting arrows into the air. What’s the old saying about don’t put the cart before the horse? If anything, Reverend King was a free thinker. A free thinker in a society where he and his people were not free. He seemingly chose to take a different route than some. We are the poorer for his loss, something I think we can all agree on.
