Al's Morning Blog 10/11/22

In 1492 Columbus sailed the ocean blue. Remember that? Us oldersters do. A poem born out of the man who in essence had a lot to do with discovering the great land we live in. (It's still is great isnt' it?)

Who invented this great country..? Lots of answers ranging from Barack Obama to Jeff Bezos to Elmer Fudd!! No one really knows or cares. In 1891, several Italians were hung in New Orleans. I don't know if it was the pasta or the sauce. Just kidding. Not funny. But try and find it in the history books. We celebrated Columbus day by closing the banks and the post office, but we also do so by tearing down the statues of Chris. The people who threw paint or chopped down the statues probably couldn't pass third grade math. They also cannot tell you why they did what they did. Just following orders from headqarters from someone who likely was either not born here or cannot spell cat. I get it. Columbus was not born here either and he gave some of the native Americans Syphilis, but they gave him tobacco, so we are probably even. How in hell can you convict someone posthumously of crimes you weren't witness to and then in the same breath, celebrate the holiday by sleeping late? Only in America, which by the way was discovered by some Italian guy. If this is really America, ask someone who Americus Vespucci is or Magellan or George Washington. Might as well go back and ask who won World War two, and if they answer correctly, find out who we defeated and what kind of car they are driving and as an afterthought, find out who signs their unemployment checks. Bet they get that one right. If we are not going to remember why the holidays are celebrated, let's cancel them all. A few extra days work wouldn't kill us and maybe would make us realize what a great country we live in. However, the people who sell meat, BarBQ- grills and pork and beans wouldn't be smiling. FYI. Columbus day is really October 12, But don't rock the boat. FYI. The boats were the Nina, the Pinta and the Santa Maria, none of which can be found at Domino's. (Yet)
