I think we have devalued the heart by means of the emoji. I notice more people use the heart when corresponding with a friend, business acquaintance, fellow fantasy football team player or copying someone on a text. I used to value " The Heart" back when we wrote things such as letters. (When is the last time you wrote one?) Now we plaster it on a message that is texted in 5.3 seconds. How could you fall in love with someone that fast? Oh, wait. I forgot. Guess we all have at one time or another. It could be with your teacher, a TV actor, maybe the person that serves you at the drive-thru window. People used to buy candy in heart shaped boxes, spend money on high dollar necklaces (remember the locket with two sides that were designed for his and hers photos and other trinkets too numerous to recall?) The emoji is a shortcut and maybe says it much better than the stammer voiced one who cannot seem to get the words out. Nevertheless, it is the day of love, this St. Valentines celebration that for Catholics is a short changer. With all the available sweets and fat Tuesday sounding the "quit eating any good stuff" bell, it can be a tough day. But as Stephen Stills once said: "If you can't be with the one you love, love the one you're with". So go ahead and use the emoji.
